Grandmother had time to wash items by hand and hang them up to dry, she sewed much of her kid’s clothing on her own and made food from scratch. She churned out fresh cakes one day each week and made her own pastries and preserves.  After doing all that she still had time to sit down each evening with her family to spend the time with them.

Nowadays, we have so many time saving gadgets and appliances that we literally don’t have to do anything by hand anymore. We have ready cake mixes and frozen cookie dough, store-bought sauces, soup mix and cooking stock.   Our time is scheduled and sliced up and divided between all the activities that have to get done and we still have no time to sit down and enjoy our families and the world around us.

It’s the curse of the modern world that the more time-saving gadgets we own the less time we have to simply live.  As new and more diverse products are constantly made available to the consumer, we are inundated with more and more updated features and options.

The downside to all these choices is that all the different features and options are time consuming to research.  Research includes comparing prices, checking up reviews, and assessing the different capabilities and add-ons each product has.

In addition, the must-have new and shiny gadgets and devices come with upgraded capabilities that inevitably have glitches that need to be fine-tuned and fixed until they work properly.  The advanced new features often cause other fundamental features to malfunction so our device is essentially useless until repaired.  To top it all off, appliances nowadays come with control panels which is another part that could malfunction. All these issues takes time to address and repair.  Do you get the drift of what’s happening nowadays?  We are a pawn to technology and the companies that promote them.
